Memories from the 80's to 00's

1980’s

Expeditions

1989 Pathfinder Expedition at Goulburn River was memorable. It rained a lot beforehand and the organisers had to completely re-plan all the routes, and use a boat to ferry everyone across the flooded river at Drummers Flat, and back again the next day!

1990’s

Leanne Roussos shares her thoughts: In the 1990’s I had the opportunity to be a Pathfinder Director at Wallsend. I had a dream to give my children the same experience I had in Pathfinders. Pathfinders was all but non-existent with Mr & Mrs Conroy providing a program and trying to give life to a Club.

I started to think what will happen when we only 2 Pathfinders, Nathan Lamplough and Danny Stoddart. The very next year more children came and this was the beginning of my journey as a Leader.

A large influence in my life was my father Gordon Bashford. He was always involved with me as a child and he stepped up in his retirement years to help us. He brought experience and a passion for Pathfindering. My goal was to provide my children and others of the same age an opportunity to create some great memories and get to know Christ.

This was an exciting time: we started with only a few children but quickly grew. Pathfinder Clubs thrive because of the commitment of adults. There were many who supported either with craft, honours, candle making, woodwork projects, camps and camporees etc. I would like to thank Joy Guy, Stuart Arblaster, Colin Vincent, Robert Norris and others who came together to help build up the Wallsend Club.
